18th January 2026 – Excerpt from The Perennial Wheel
With the New Moon in the cardinal, earth sign of Capricorn, the lunation is accompanied with the initiatory energy associated with the cardinal mode. New moons are symbolic of the unconscious mind, mundane behaviours, instincts and of general mood. They also represent an initiating or incubating quality, whether conscious or not. The cardinal quality also represents an initiatory quality, and of hope and enterprise. The earth element of Capricorn bring associations with land, property, possessions and material issues, along with the ambitious, serious and disciplined that accompany the qualities of Capricorn. With the Sun and Moon both uncomfortable in Capricorn and with the Moon in detriment, this lunation feels off to a difficult start.
The ruling planet of Saturn is situated at 27 degrees of Pisces, and although not weakened by this position, he is fed up with the closeness to Neptune who is forever trying to dissolve Saturn’s boundaries and structure, Neptune being impossible to contain.
Mercury and Mars are exactly conjunct with each other and are in a 2 degree orb conjunction with this lunation in Capricorn bringing possibly heated communications but most definitely energetic intellectual energy into play. Venus and Pluto straddle the Aquarius side of this New Moon at 1 and 3 degrees respectively bringing intense undercurrents of desire or infatuation though for a fleeting time.
The New Moon stellium is in trine to chaotic Uranus in steadfast Taurus which in turn is sextile to Saturn’s difficult predicament with Neptune, there maybe some unexpected changes in stability, difficult to keep boundaries with faery glamour deception is on the horizon for this lunation.
Moon, herbs and ritual
- Dark moon’s are good rest days and used for preparation work. Preparing pots, pot labels and soil, organise seeds and planting. Avoid harvesting until the moon is visible in 1-2 days time.
- An earthy and feminine moon, seen as dry and barren.
- Support and tonify bones, joints, teeth and knees.
- Herbs could include mullein, comfrey and milky oat/oat straw
- A simple dark moon ritual is to detox in a magnesium salt bath (or foot bath) with added fragrant herbs, essential oils or flower essences.
‘The stars incline, they do not compel, a trinity of testimonial’s is needed for certainty. With foresight and preparation, a certainty can be prepared for, helping to either enhance or negate, as needed.’
These transits may affect you personally, if you are predisposed, this can be seen within your natal and other related charts, usually by what is termed a Trinity of Testimonial’s, though otherwise they are general.
If you are likely to be susceptible to this influence, making preparations of meditation and prayer, practicing forms of psychic self defence maybe necessary. The best psychic self defence is considered to be from those of your personal ancestral roots and not of foreign belief systems. Creating and maintaining a strong ancestral veneration practice is seen to strengthen against malicious forces.
The safe use of herbs and other remedies will always depend upon your unique health situation, and you should always take into consideration any possible contraindications; pregnancy and lactation, children’s doses, herb/drug combinations, allergic reactions and up and coming surgery, seek advice from your trusted health professional if not 100% sure.
